ROME--After having two other careers under his belt a new local business owner decided he wanted to pursue something else.

Paul Fitzpatrick officially opened his own business today, the Somatique Massage and Wellness is located on W. Dominick St. in Rome. He said he wanted to do something different for the community.

“I was in the air force, [then] I taught social studies in the Rome city school district for 25 years and then retired,” he said. “But I have always thought [people are] lifelong learners we always preach lifelong learning in school, I wasn’t done yet and it was time to do something else.”

To celebrate the opening, Carol Manuele from Berkshire Bank and second vice chairman of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Committee presented the first dollar of profit award during the ribbon cutting to Fitzpatrick.

Manuele explained why this business is important for the city of Rome. “Well I think [that] any business that we can put in Rome and offer to all of the people that live here is a benefit to us,” she said. “And this seems to be quite a popular business.”

Fitzpatrick said Somatique Massage and Wellness will offer people a place to relax. “Come in and see us the only thing you will lose is your stress,” he said.

Somatique Massage and Wellness is host their open house on Saturday Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. People are invited to tour the renovated massage rooms and everyone who visits the open house will be entered into a drawing for a free 60 minute massage session. They are also offering a $20 discount for any 60 or 90 minute appointments booked during the open house.
