October 10
Mission Impossible III will be shown at midnight at the Hamilton Theatre, 7 Lebanon St., Hamilton. Admission is $3 and includes a pizza slice. For tickets and information contact Hamilton Theater, (315)824-8210.

Free Movie Night at St. John's Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut St., Rome, at 7 p.m. Based on a best-selling novel by Francine Rivers, this story takes place in the Appalachian mountains circa 1850 and involves an ancient custom the characters have brought from Wales. When the central character uncovers a dark secret about the mystical practice, it threatens to divide her family and her community. Ultimately, she discovers the truth, and the extraordinary impact of forgiveness on her family and community members is revealed. Movie night admission and refreshments are free, although an offering is accepted. The film is rated PG-13. Free childcare for children two and older and alternate movie programming for children can be arranged by calling the church office at 336-8090. Attendees can bring a folding lawn chair for viewing comfort.

See George Cukor's classic comedy "The Women" at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., Utica, at 6:30 p.m. Made in 1939, the film is a razor-sharp satire about gossip, divorce and infidelity amongst a group of high-society women. Based on Claire Boothe Luce's successful Broadway play, the film boasts an all-female, all-star cast including Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell and Paulette Goddard. Although the film is in black and white, it has become noted for a full Technicolor fashion show in the middle of the storyline. Recently remade, this original film version will give audiences a great opportunity for comparison. The screening is free to the public. Call the library at 735-2279 for more information.

Spaghetti Dinner at the Delta United Methodist Church featuring Joe's Meatballs from 4 to 7 p.m. The meal will also include spaghetti, salad, bread, cake, and beverage. This is the sixth annual six-acre corn maze. Free hay wagon ride or short walk from Remsen Depot to maze. Refreshments and gift shop. Flashlight Nites - Must have flashlight to be admitted. Corn Maze presented by the Stittville Fire Department. The maze will open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to dusk. This year's maze is the shape of a Halloween witch. Scenic Road Race in Old Forge will begin at 9 a.m. to benefit Camp Mark VII. This 5K and 10K run/walk is held on the streets of Old Forge and Thendara. It begins and ends at the North Street Recreation Center in Old Forge. The entry fee is $30 per person, which includes registration, a T-shirt, awards, and a post-race snack. Needle Tatting class will be held at the Shawangunk Nature Preserve, 255 Shawangunk Rd., Cold Brook, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Although this very old craft is traditionally done with a little tatting shuttle, the same delicate embellishments for linens and clothing can be done with a special tatting needle which some find easier to use. Tatting "laces" may be put on collars, sleeves, towels, table-cloths and used to make little motifs to sew on. We'll show the basic knots and make a little flower. Materials fee $3. Craft Fair will be held at the Yorkville Fire Department, corner of Calder and Sixth avenues, Yorkville, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hosted by the Yorkville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. The event will feature homemade crafts with at least 10 vendors. There will be a basket raffle and any children in Halloween costumes can have their picture taken for a nominal fee. United Way Tailgate Party hosted by Assemblyman Marc Butler and Rocky Fiato from 1-4 p.m. at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer.Food and games will be available. Tickets are $20 at the door and can be purchased in advance by calling the United Way Herkimer County Office at 894.9903

Rome Crop Walk at St. John's Lutheran Church on Chestnut Street, Rome. A goal of $35,000 has been set. Additional goals include participation of 600 walkers and 500 posters to be prepared by children and entered into the annual poster contest. Posters will be displayed at St. John's on CROP Walk Sunday and at Jervis Library throughout November. This year's theme is Operation Stop Hunger. Benefit Walk for Suicide Prevention Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by participating in the Out of Darkness Community Walk" in F. T. Proctor Park, Rutger St. and Culver Ave., Utica. Proceeds will benefit local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs. Stacey Jones Ghost Cop: Ghosts of Central New York at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., Utica, at 7 p.m. in the library gallery. Jones founded Central New York Ghost Hunters in 1997 and is considered one of the top ten paranormal investigators in the U.S. She has conducted over 700 investigations including the Herkimer County Jail. Participants needed for holiday parade The Resource Center for Independent Living is in the early planning stages for the Mohawk Valley's annual holiday parade in downtown Utica. The third annual Wonderland of Lights Holiday parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. RCIL is presenting the holiday parade in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street. The parade will proceed North on Genesee Street to Columbia Street, while Mrs. Claus will continue to the Utica Train Station to meet Santa. Want to participate? There is no fee associated to join in the parade. Schools, clubs, organizations and businesses are encouraged to join. 3rd Annual Gingerbread contest at the Didymus Thomas Library on Main Street in Remsen. The contest is open to individuals in Oneida County and will feature categories that include professional, adult individual, adult group, youth individual kindergarten-5th grade, youth individual 6th-12th grade, youth group, and youth and adult. Entries may feature houses, cottages and churches, or more non-traditional themes with fantasy, whimsical, castle, farmyard, or transportation structures. The deadline for registration is Nov. 24.
