November 8 Pancake breakfast A sausage and all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to benefit Mount Markham High School science teacher Pam DeCarr will be held will be held from 8-11 a.m. in the Mount Markham High School Cafeteria on Fairground Road, West Winfield. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children age 12 and under. A raffle for 200 gallons of heating fuel or kerosene and gas cards worth $100, $50 and $25 will be held during the breakfast, along with a Chinese auction featuring gift baskets of items donated by local businesses. Church Events November 8 Holiday Bazaar will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 502 W Chestnut St., Rome from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The ladies of the Sew & Sews and Lutheran Women's Missionary League prepare for the bazaar every fall. Members of the congregation also contribute specialty items offering shoppers a wide variety of choices like Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations, quilts, knit and crocheted items, house plants, as well as a white elephant table. Baked goods and coffee will also be available.

Lectures November 6 Oneida storyteller's lecture Learn the traditional ways of the Oneida Indian Nation's storytellers during a cultural experience with Tony Wonderly at Mohawk Valley Community College's Plumley Complex Auditorium on the Rome Campus at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. MVCC's Rome Campus is located at 1101 Floyd Avenue. Wonderley will discuss detailed analysis of the Oneida stories during his presentation. As author of "Oneida Iroquois: Folklore, Myth and History," spectators will discover from his lecture that aspects within tales from the Oneida Indians are similar to those found in stories from Wyandot and Huron lore, but also the uniquely Iroquoian characteristics. November 8 John Hammond in Concert with Midnite Mike, at Munson Williams Proctor Theatre at 8 p.m. Blues guitarist John Hammond has more than 30 albums to his name, a Grammy win, four additional Grammy nominations, multiple W.C. Handy Awards, a movie soundtrack (Little Big Man) and the featured role in a documentary on Robert Johnson. The B Sharp Musical Club will perfrom at the Presbyterian Home on Middle Settlement Road at 2 p.m. This is the first of a series of outreach programs by B Sharp, which is a non-profit music club of volunteers organized in 1903, that offers scholarships and concerts to the community. This concert will include vocal selections by Jo Zangrilli, Jill Bush, and Patrick Marthage accompanied by Angela Nassar. Instrumental solos will be presented by Joe Karwacki (string bass), Curtis Karwacki (cello) accompanied by Fiona Peters. A mini group of young chamber musicians will perform Christmas selections.

Through November 17 Bountiful Thanksgiving Basket Raffle through the Dance 10 Boosters. The basket of donated items includes a turkey and a cornucopia of various items for Thanksgiving. November 18 "Point Blank" the 1967 neo-noir classic will be shown at the Utica Public Library at 6:30 p.m. A stylized, taut thriller, the film focuses on revenge and greed in the world of organized crime. Lee Marvin plays the stoic, macho "Walker" who is determined to get the money stolen from him during a double-crossing heist. Director John Boorman gives the film a visual style of great impact with his impressive use of expansive widescreen. The film is rated PG and is free to the public. November 29 Participants needed for holiday parade The Resource Center for Independent Living is in the early planning stages for the Mohawk Valley's annual holiday parade in downtown Utica. The third annual Wonderland of Lights Holiday parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. RCIL is presenting the holiday parade in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street. The parade will proceed North on Genesee Street to Columbia Street, while Mrs. Claus will continue to the Utica Train Station to meet Santa. Want to participate? The contest is open to individuals in Oneida County and will feature categories that include professional, adult individual, adult group, youth individual kindergarten-5th grade, youth individual 6th-12th grade, youth group, and youth and adult. Entries may feature houses, cottages and churches, or more non-traditional themes with fantasy, whimsical, castle, farmyard, or transportation structures. The deadline for registration is Nov. 24.
