"A Change of Scenery" featuring watercolor paintings of Vige Barrie will be held at The Artful Lodger Gallery, 7 East Park Row, Clinton. An artist's reception, on Sunday, Nov. 16 from 3-5 p.m., is free and open to the public. The works are on view now through December 14. Workshops & Classes November 15 Choosing Quality DayCare at the Utica Public Library at 1 p.m. in the library gallery. The workshop is geared not only for prospective parents, but also for adults who are considering parenthood for the future. A PowerPoint presentation will present an A to Z approach that will include handouts, contacts and interview questions. The workshop will be presented by Kelly DeGrace who has been involved with childcare for more than 30 years and is currently a NYS licensed, Group Family Daycare Provider. Knitting with Felting class will be held 10:30 to noon at the Shawangunk Nature Preserve, 255 Shawangunk Road, Cold Brook. Energy Forum Local residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about energy options at an energy forum that will be held at Mohawk Valley Community College's Rome Campus. The forum, sponsored by the Rome Chamber of Commerce, begins at 8 a.m. in the Plumley Complex Auditorium. It will include representatives from National Grid, The New York Power Authority, The New York State Energy Research & Development Authority, and Integrys Energy who will serve as panelists for a one-hour discussion. True Story of Amazing 1980 Olympic Win is subject of free movie night at St. John's Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut St., Rome, at 7 p.m. Based on the true story of one of the biggest upsets in Olympic history-a USA amateur hockey team beats the seasoned, professional Soviet team in Lake Placid. Movie night admission and refreshments are free, although a freewill offering is accepted. This film was theatrically released in 2004. Free childcare for children ages two and older and alternate movie programming for children can be arranged by calling the church office at (315)336-8090 in advance of Movie Night. Attendees may prefer to bring a folding lawn chair for added viewing comfort. All are welcome.
November 15 "Goldfinger" will be playing at Rome's Capitol Theater at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., recreating the original 1965 movie experience with original ticket prices. It will also feature trailers from other Sean Connery as James Bond films. Tickets are the original 1965 admission prices: Adults are 90 cents and children are 50 cents.
November 18 "Point Blank" the 1967 neo-noir classic will be shown at the Utica Public Library at 6:30 p.m. A stylized, taut thriller, the film focuses on revenge and greed in the world of organized crime. Lee Marvin plays the stoic, macho "Walker" who is determined to get the money stolen from him during a double-crossing heist. Director John Boorman gives the film a visual style of great impact with his impressive use of expansive widescreen. The film is rated PG and is free to the public. November 29 RCIL'S 3rd Annual Holiday Parade The Resource Center for Independent Living continues to seek participants for the Mohawk Valley's annual holiday parade in downtown Utica. The third annual Wonderland of Lights Holiday parade is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. RCIL is presenting the holiday parade in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street to offer the community a day filled with holiday fun. The parade will proceed North on Genesee Street to Columbia Street, while Mrs. Claus will continue to the Union Station and the Christmas on Main Street celebration to meet Santa.
